Frequently Asked Questions

Is MBBS from Hungary valid in India?
Yes. All 4 Hungarian medical universities are WHO WDOMS listed and NMC India recognised. Graduates must clear the NExT examination (which replaced FMGE from 2024) to practise in India, followed by a 12-month supervised internship. Hungarian MD degrees are also recognised for USMLE (USA), PLAB (UK), AMC (Australia), and across all 27 EU member states.
Is there an entrance exam for MBBS in Hungary?
Yes. Unlike Romania (no exam), Hungary requires an online entrance exam in Biology, Chemistry, and English/Biomedical English, followed by an online personal interview. The exams are conducted remotely — you sit from India with no travel required. Semmelweis University uses a 20-question × 20-minute format per subject. KALINGAEURO provides full coaching for the Hungarian entrance exam.
Why does Hungary have only 4 medical universities?
Hungary takes a quality-over-quantity approach — the government strictly regulates medical education to ensure all graduates meet EU standards. All 4 universities are well-funded, research-active, government institutions with major hospital complexes. This means every seat you get in Hungary is in a genuinely prestigious, internationally recognised institution.
What is the total cost of MBBS in Hungary?
Tuition ranges from €14,000/year (University of Szeged) to ~€19,000/year (Semmelweis University). Including living costs, the all-inclusive annual cost is approximately €18,000–€26,000 depending on the university and city. The complete 6-year programme costs approximately ₹95 lakh–₹1.3 crore all-inclusive — higher than Bulgaria or Romania but comparable to Poland, with the added prestige of Hungary's ancient university tradition.
Which Hungarian university is best for Indian students?
It depends on priorities. Semmelweis (Budapest) for prestige, largest city life, strongest global reputation. University of Pécs for the oldest institution, most affordable living, warm Mediterranean city vibe. University of Debrecen for the most international campus (6,300 international students), largest Indian community, QS-ranked. University of Szeged for Nobel legacy, most affordable fees, sunniest city. KALINGAEURO provides personalised matching for your profile and budget.
Is Hungarian language required?
No. All 4 universities offer fully English-medium MD programmes for international students. Lectures, labs, clinical training, and examinations are all in English. Basic conversational Hungarian helps with patients and daily life, but there is no Hungarian language requirement for admission or academic progress.
Is food available for Indian students in Hungary?
Yes — especially in Budapest (multiple Indian restaurants, Indian grocery stores, temples) and Debrecen (largest Indian student community outside Budapest). All 4 university cities have some Indian food options and large student communities organise Diwali, Holi, and cultural events. Hungarian vegetarian cuisine is also widely available.
